THE FUTURE OF FILM - Press Release by Ilford/Harmon Technologies
It isn’t too often that I can actually say that I enjoyed
reading a press release. What I am referring to is a recent press release by
Ilford/Harmon Technologies out of the UK, entitled “The Future of Film”. Those who
know me know of my lifelong love affair with film, one which hasn’t abated even
in this age of digital photography.
While I shoot very little Black & White these days, my
photographic days began with film like Ilford HP5 and Pan F. I can only
celebrate Ilford’s success. Here are a few short
clips from this release:
“Over recent times, the demand and usage of both digital and
film-based imaging have settled into more discernable levels, with film very
much holding its own. Howard Hopwood, marketing director of black-and-white
photographic materials manufacturer ILFORD PHOTO, sees a very positive future for
the traditional medium.
Film – the wonder of the photographic age – has survived numerous incursions
over recent decades as digital has done battle to hold the high ground in the
field of image capture. Now that the extremist ‘either/or’ conflict has abated,
just about everyone involved in photography recognizes that both film and
digital have established individual strongholds while also working together in
many instances to provide the best of both worlds.”
