Desolation at Lonely Dell Ranch

The land around Lonely Dell Ranch is bleak, desolate, scrub brush, showing signs where rocks were violently tossed from the side of the surrounding sandstone buttes. Yet, for all of this, it's a stark beauty; the way the sun catches on the edges of plants and highlights the side of the hills shows life.

The Lee's Ferry and Lonely Dell Ranch Historic District includes the ranch homesteaded by Mormon pioneer John D. Lee at Lee's Ferry, Arizona, and now in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. It is notable for its association with Lee, the ferry and the ranch's extensive irrigation facilities.
